Site
The Grand Enclos is a 55-hectare walled vineyard, first cultivated in 1604. Situated in the northernmost part of the Saint-Julien appellation, the land rises to form two mounds that slope down to the Gironde estuary. The climate is moderated by a rare proximity to the river, which protects the vines from frost and has sculpted the site over millions of years.
Soils
Beneath the iconic white stone galets on the surface lies an extraordinary diversity of soil types that create a complex “tetris” of interlocking layers. Among them is a significant proportion of treasured clay and gravel, with varying depths and degrees of compactness.
